While we’re still in the midst of summer, keep in mind that fall isn’t far off. The hot days will soon cool down, summer vacations will be behind us, and you’ll likely be spending more time at home. If your space feels like it could use a refresh or even a major renovation—now is the perfect time to start planning. One of the easiest ways tobreathe new lifeinto a room? Color.
Whether you’re painting, shopping for furniture, or simply adding a few new accents, here are five colorsinterior designers predictwill dominate home design this fall.
1. Chocolate Brown
Designer Tula Summerford says she’s obsessed with chocolate brown hues for the fall. “We love color drenching the room in high gloss browns and mixing in textured fabrics in neutral hues of ivory, soft golds, and butter yellow,” she says. “I always include textured animal print fabrics, usually in an accent chair and in pillows. Walnut and burled wood pieces with gold accents are a must.” Summerford says she likes to bring all these hues together with custom abstract art that provides a cohesive look.
Looking for another reason to go with chocolate brown? It’s easy to create an aesthetic that’s equally trendy and timeless, since the brown color is in the neutral family yet it has a richness that creates a bold statement.
2. Aubergine
Aubergine, which is also known as eggplant, will be a hot color this fall, according to Mallory Robins and Elizabeth Bennett of Kobel + Co. “For this upcoming fall, we’re seeing a richly layered shift in home design that’s moving toward a much more grounded, emotive color palette,” Robins says. “Aubergine pairs beautifully with warm metallics, rich marbles, and lighter, natural textures, like travertine or raw oak.”
3. Red Wine
Do you like the deep, rich hue of aubergine but want a red shade instead? Consider red wine tones. This color will be popular in the fall, explains Andrea Goldman of Andrea Goldman Design, noting that the popularity of Calacatta Viola marble—which has deep wine-toned veining—is in part to thank for this trend. “Since we’re seeing this material used more in side tables and lamps, clients are definitely starting to incorporate that deep color in unconventional ways,” she explains. “Bolder choices in stones and marbles are really influencing the use of saturated color elsewhere in the home.”

4. Butter Yellow
It’s been the summer of butter yellow in fashion, and it’s easy to understand why. This color is fresh, fun, and just feels awake. Robins and Bennett say it’s bound to find its way into home design in the coming months. “On the softer side, butter yellow will continue to trend and serve as a cheerful, warm accent in breakfast nooks, bedrooms, and tabletop décor, bringing a sense of sunlight into the space without being overly pastel,” Bennett says.
5. Murky Greens
Robins and Bennett also say murky green shades are some of their favorites of the season. These nature-inspired colors look fantastic in a variety of applications. “They will show up in linen florals, back kitchen cabinetry, French ranges, and so much more,” Robins says.
